"Belonging” is an echo of Old Dhaka, offering a nostalgic view of a city anchored in the Bangladeshi tradition. Gently, deeply, Munem Wasif's black and white photographs unveil lives tinted as much by time and memory as by the perpetual motion of daily life.
It is the eye of the photographer, faithful to his country, that reflects the emotions felt within Old Dhaka, a city which still makes many photographers dream.
Over a period of ten years Munem Wasif wandered through the alleys, along the river banks, between street vendors' stalls, pushing open doors in order to tell the history of one family or one lonely man... Ten years were needed to distill in one book the essence of the soul of Old Dhaka.
